90 years
The Lawrence family has served the
American motoring public with new and used cars, parts and service from Walnut Creek, California for over
90
years.
In the words of Contra Costa
County, historian, George Emanuels...
"The Lawrence family
is to Walnut Creek what Babe Ruth is to baseball" ---that even though
they were not founders of the town, "they made their own tradition
in it."
The Lawrence family has been an
active participant in Walnut Creek's business community since 1910,
when Jesse Lawrence purchased the Walnut Creek Meat Company, an
enterprise that thrived over nine decades under the leadership of
three generations of Lawrence family.
Lester Lawrence the fourth son of
Jesse and Pauline Lawrence opened a garage and Buick dealership
across the street from the Walnut Creek Meat Company in 1921. In 1937 Lester Lawrence started a Chrysler dealership in Walnut
Creek. In the 1966 the dealership began selling cars from
Sweden.
Today the Lawrence family continues
to do business in Walnut Creek under the guidance of the second and
third generations. Lester's son Jim and Jim's
daughter Cindy operate Lawrence Volvo on North Main Street in
Walnut Creek. Lawrence Volvo is currently the only family owned, single brand, one
location Volvo retailer in Northern California. The staff at
Lawrence Volvo includes many long time employees...some with over
10, 15 and even 20 years of experience in sales, service and parts
for Volvo.
Lawrence Volvo is
an environmentally concerned company active in the local community.
It has been honored with numerous business and civic awards
including the Volvo President's Club trophy in 2001 and 2006.
In 1992 the City
of Walnut Creek built
a new street and onramp to Interstate 680. On
November 5, 1992 Evelyn Munn, Mayor of Walnut Creek issued a
proclamation on the right naming the road Lawrence Way as "a tribute to a family that
personifies tradition in Walnut Creek and as a small token of the
community's gratitude for the Lawrence family's dedication to
bringing business to Walnut Creek for the past 80 years".
Lawrence Volvo has been one of the top ten Volvo Overseas Delivery
retailers in America for many years. The Lawrence team finished
the 2011 year in second place for Overseas Delivery sales moving up
from the number three spot in 2010. In
2008, 2007, 2002 and 2001 Lawrence Volvo was also the number two Volvo
Overseas dealer in the country. Lawrence Volvo held the number one position in Volvo
Overseas Delivery sales in America for both 2009 and 2004.
